Notifications to Post Membership

1 May 2020

  1. As you know, Governor Pritzker has issued another Executive Order extending the Stay At Home order to May 30, For that reason and especially for the safety of our members, our Post Meeting scheduled for 11 May 2020 is cancelled. Additionally, the Department of Illinois State Commander sent official notice Friday afternoon, April 24th that the State convention, scheduled for June 11-14, 2020 was officially cancelled. Earlier that week, the VFW National Commander announced that the National Convention which was scheduled for July 18-23, 2020 was cancelled. On this same topic, the District 4 Meeting scheduled for May 3, 2020 will be held; however, it will be done via Zoom technology. The main reason for holding the District meeting is the election of District 4 officers. We will be in attendance representing Post 3579. Post 3579 will be represented.
  2. We are required by VFW Manual of Procedure to hold our elections each year. We still hope hold our June Meeting; however, due to uncertainty with the current pandemic, it is possible that we will not be able to meet in person. Please note: We are not saying that the June Meeting is off, only that there is still uncertainty about returning to normal times as there may still be restrictions in place in For that reason, the Post will elect its officers using paper ballots by first-class mail. There will be a second mailing with Election information and ballots and return envelopes in May 2020. Nominations are normally made at election meetings, votes are cast and officers are elected for the ensuing Post year. With the decision to conduct elections by mail, it is vital that we have nominations ahead of time so they can be on the ballots that will be sent out. Whether or not we meet in person on June 8thwe will use paper ballots to carry out our elections. Therefore, it is critical that nominations are made prior to the ballots being tallied up for the election. Due to the current situation, nominated members must also provide written acceptance of their nomination prior to the elections. Any eligible member that believes he/she may be written-in as a nominee must send their written nomination acceptance to the Adjutant [email will work, address:  jpmcg32@comcast.net] no later than 15 May 2020. We have accepted nominations for the following positions: Senior Vice Commander, Junior Vice Commander, Quartermaster, Chaplain and 3 Year Trustee. Members who have not accepted their nomination must provide written acceptance of the nomination prior to the elections.  At the moment, we have nominations for every position except Commander.
  3. The Sentry newsletter that went out for May, June and July 2020 included information on selling We regret that due to current conditions, we must, at the least, delay our Poppy sale days. We hope to establish a new date for Poppy Days, but we are not sure it will be possible. Therefore, if you haven’t returned the sheet with your Poppy donation, please be as generous as possible and send in your donations. All Poppy donations go into our Relief Fund.
  4. Finally, we are pleased to announce that we have finalized negotiations and a signed contract to purchase 7255 N. Caldwell Avenue in Niles that will become our new Post Home. We have a closing date of 12 June 2020. There are many details ahead associated with the purchase, including remodeling, but we will own our Post Home in the near future.

We hope the information in this notification is helpful to you.

God Bless You and Stay Safe.
